Politics has always been the refuge of the scoundrels in Pakistan. Ethics is one of the predominant essences of politics in the world but incumbently it has been replaced by deceiving and bluffing of nation in one way or the other. The general masses who stir hope to the politicians end in disappointment and destruction because the way politicians act is essentially beyond the will of the electors. Care for their personal and family interests run deeper in their blood. Corruption and double standard policies often shatter the wishes of the people.
In Pakistan the muskiness in politics has compelled the masses to look into other options i.e., revolt and the mass protests because these are the last resorts to upright the system which is faulty and has been failed to deliver. Apparently, things have fallen apart and it is hard for the centre to hold the shattering things. To be frank, a paradigm shift is the need of the hour to bring an overhaul in the existing weak system. The present system is failing to come up with the expectations of disgruntled masses.
The main reason behind all these woes which Pakistan is confronting is the institutional imbalances. Politicians are at the loggerheads with the Military establishment which is performing better than the rogue leadership which has is incompetent and corrupt as well and badly exposed to the masses due to which it has lost its rudimentary mandate. Judiciary has also lost its respect in failing to provide speedy justice to the lots who are in wait for justice. Parliament has become a useless chatterbox busy in protecting the corrupt and the filthy politicians.
Moreover, it is being used as a protected shield by the scoundrels. Media once used to be the voice of the voiceless has become a tool to break news into futile pieces. Above all, the people are no way in consistence with the present status quo. In spite of, looking towards parliament as the ultimate option they are looking in peripheries for shelter and hope. The alternative, in the shape of military establishment is performing wonders on various fronts. Be it the CPEC, dealing terrorism, militancy, fighting the Chottu Gang, bringing peace in Karachi, political corruption etc have been eradicated up to the premium by the military.
Nevertheless, it is a long way to go. It is not the end. Presently, Panama leaks which unmasked thousands of illegal wealth of the corrupt politicians of the world including Pakistan has brought a new shift in the political milieu. The rulers has last the moral ground to lead the nation and to make the economy upright because of their illegitimate earnings and offshore companies in order to avoid taxes in motherland. The million dollar question is that how the exposed corrupts can be trusted nationally and internationally. How they can beg for foreign direct investment in absence of trust. Seemingly, panama leaks were nail in the coffin of the business minded elites worldwide who used politics and power to protect their looted wealth.
Certainly, a state like Pakistan cannot afford such fraud politicians and leaders. It is the high and ripe time for the masses to stand and question the ruler about the plundered national wealth. But the real hindrance in the way of mass protest in Pakistan is the splinted political dynamics. In the presence of hundreds of political parties have left no stone unturned to limit the thinking of the people. Every fickle minded chap in Pakistan is handicapped and cannot think beyond party lines. The case of European states and other continental countries are verily different. There national interest runs deeper into the veins of politicians and nation by and large. People are respected and their voices are valued. In Pakistan, masses easily appear at the beck and call of rogue politicians and corrupt leadership. Here national interest is dead and still not decided by the champions of democracy. Unless and until political lineages are with the masses, the possibility of mass protest in the footings of Iceland and “Arab Spring” is a nightmare.
A neutral mindset is required to bring a paradigm shift in Pakistan. Often politicians talk of democracy under threat. Essentially, it is the faulty system under threat which is the strong and safe shelter of the incompetents in Pakistan. To be sure, the threat is within not from outside. Certain things need to be reconsidered and masses must change their anachronistic mindset. The irrelevant mindset, the colonial heritages the pernicious narratives which are harming and polluting the minds of public, no more relevant in the pace of present system need overhauling. The making of new beginning can only be possible if the people at large understand their rights and limitations as free citizens, not as chained slaves. They should create new narratives and make new history by bypassing the existing ones.
The new developments show that state is in dire need of a Messiah whether that would be in boots or in Sherwani and who can show them the real path.
