Digital security has become a very important issue in the modern-day society due to the increase in cybercrime. Most cybercriminals are motivated by financial gains however, there are also other kinds of cybercriminals, for instance, hobby hackers, politically motivated hackers, and government-sponsored hackers, or employee hackers used by a competitor to get access to company secrets.
The lack of awareness among Pakistani masses causes them various digital threats in the shape of credit card fraud, business email compromise (BEC), cyberstalking, defaming someone online, identity theft, Facebook and WhatsApp hacks are the most common digital incidents. We face electronic fraud because we share our essential information with unknown people via mobile, email, or website as a result we face financial loss in such cases.
In today’s dynamic environment, digital security has become crucial for families, individuals, military, business houses, and social sectors organizations. The leak of confidential data causes irreparable harm not only to individuals but also to organizations.
Digital security is equally important for local states, military, and organizations because they maintain a huge amount of confidential data and records concerning their respective country and its citizens. However, several states department and organizations face difficulty in protecting data because of inadequate secured infrastructure, limited funding, and lack of digital security sensitization. The stealing of confidential data or sensitive information by terrorists from sensitive departments and digital spying can lead to serious menaces in a country.
Therefore digital security has immense importance for every department and also vital to every individual. Growing digital threats such as data theft, phishing scams, and other digital vulnerabilities demand that users ought to remain vigilant about protecting data. It is crucial for an individual to understand different type of risks and vulnerabilities that exists in the internet world.
The Internet has provided opportunities in a wide range, but there are severe risks that cannot be avoided. Photos, videos, and other personal information shared by an individual on social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Whatsapp can be inappropriately used by others may lead to serious and even life-threatening incidents. It is the sole duty of every individual to comprehend how to protect against digital threats and understand the difference between the virtual world and the real world. The individual should know the rights and responsibilities of a digital citizen in order to create a positive online environment.
It is the core need of time that the government of Pakistan and Balochistan should include digital security awareness in school and college level syllabus to secure our nation builders from digital threats in the future. Importantly, the Pakistan cyber-crime act 2016 should be implemented in high spirit to make the internet environment more secure and safe for its citizens.
