Pine-Nut Forests of Sherani Engulfed with Fire for 11 days

Quetta:  A massive fire has engulfed the Pine-nut forests in Koh e Sulaiman Range on the border of Balochistan and KP, since 9th May.
According to local journalist Ali Khan Mandokhail, Shar Ghalaeye and Sur Luki village mountains of Sherani district are most affected. he said that so far three people have died due to burns and 3 injured. Countless animals have also died.
Two helicopters are being used to control the fire but it’s beyond their control, as per the local authorities.
Government authorities claim that still, it’s not certain what caused the fire.

Local people claim that all government departments have failed to control the spread of the fire.

This grave issue is also not getting the required media coverage, which is further preventing the needed reaction by the government to control the fire.
Civil society activities have urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to direct NDMA to use all available resources to control the fire to prevent wildlife and pine trees, which are the only source of livelihood for local residents.
