Quetta: Facebook page of Balochistan Voices online newspaper was hacked and vandalized by unidentified hackers, Tuesday evening.
Balochistan Voices is an online media outlet, established on 20th February 2016, which operates from Quetta and covers the socio-economic issues of Balochistan. Facebook page of Balochistan Voices has over 75,000 fans and it’s the main source of traffic for the Balochistan Voices website.
Hackers deleted all the posts of the page published in last one month and also changed the name of the page to English Voices. They also shared at least one link on the page which contained obscene material. The hackers also made the page invisible to Facebook users in Pakistan.
Web team of Balochistan Voices managed to regain the control of the page within an hour and started restoring the page. They were able to make it visible to people in Pakistan again and also restored its cover and profile picture. However the name of the page could not be changed for one week due to policies of Facebook.
Recently, Balochistan Voices published a rebuttal to interview of Dr. Kasier Bengali on CPEC and also highlighted the inaccuracies in a Dawn Newspaper story about census in Balochistan. This media organization also launched its Android App on Sunday.
Team Balochistan Voices in its Facebook post vowed that such hacking attempts can’t deter them from doing their job.
