Year Review: Balochistan Voices in 2016

Balochistan Voices was launched on 20th February 2016. Today the first calendar year of Balochistan Voices came to an end and it’s time for a brief year-end review.
Background
Balochistan Voices is a non-profit English-language online newspaper which relies on the contribution of volunteer writers from across Balochistan. Its a full-fledged online newspaper which publishes news stories, opinion articles, editorials, letters to the editors and blogs on regular basis.
Publications
From 20th February 2016 to 31st December, Balochistan Voices was updated on almost daily basis to provide latest news and views to its wide range of readers. During the period Balochistan Voices published:
402 News Stories
15 Editorials
109 Opinion Columns
147 Blogs
152 Letter to the Editors
8 Interviews including those of Ahmed Baksh Lehri, Abdul Saboor Kakar and Kamal Siddiqui amongst others.
12 Social media covering stories including twitter campaign such as #BalochistanBudget and #CancerHospitalQuetta
All of these publications were made possible by a team of more than 100 volunteer contributors who contributed for Balochistan during last 10 months.
Social Media Outreach
Balochistan Voices has the distinction of having the highest number of social media followers among all online media outlets in Balochistan.
Balochistan Voices has over 46,000 followers on Facebook and more than 2,300 followers on Twitter.  Apart from that hundreds of unique photos were shared by Balochistan Voices on social media under Photos of the Day feature.
Success Stories
In just first ten months after its inception, Balochistan Voices managed to create some significant Success Stories.
Balochistan Voices achieved the distinction to publish the first Data Journalism Story in Balochistan.
Apart from that Balochistan Voices highlighted the issue of lack of class rooms in Government School in Hajika on which action was taken by government.
Balochistan Voices also actively campaigned for conducting the PCS exams on time and eventually government of Balochistan intervened and exams were conducted on time.
What’s Next?
Balochistan Voices is finalizing its plans to expand its volume of reporting and publishing and soon the expansion plans will be implemented.
A Program will also be held on 20th February 2017 to commemorate the first Anniversary of Balochistan Voices.
